RYOKAN TONOSAWA ICHINOYU HONKAN

HAKONE

Tonosawa Ichinoyu Honkan is an old ryokan founded in 1630, located in Hakone on the banks of the Hayakawa River.

Tonosawa Ichinoyu Honkan has a total of 22 rooms. Rooms are decorated in a traditional style with tatami mats, which are classic carpets made from Japanese rice straw. A special feature of tatami mats is that they have a cooling effect in summer and a warming effect in winter. The rooms are also decorated with traditional Japanese sliding doors, or shojis, made of rice paper stretched on a wooden frame. Rice paper is thin, so it lets in light into the room. However, the paper is not visible through, so privacy is protected.

A good night’s sleep is guaranteed by a classic futon bed. Rooms also have Wi-Fi access, air conditioning, a fridge, TV, private bathroom and a low side table kettle for making a cup of green matcha tea.

In this ryokan, the Onsen spas are separate for men and women. Extras include a dining room and a souvenir shop selling local produce. Breakfast and dinner are included in the accommodation, and both meals are served in the dining room.

In the morning or evening, you can wear a traditional yukata kimono and visit the spa, where you can enjoy a variety of massages and facials.
