Flag of Albania

The Albanian flag is composed of a red sheet on which a black double-headed eagle is depicted. The flag was adopted in 1912, when Albania gained independence from the Ottoman Empire. The origin of the flag is associated with the national hero Skanderbeger (originally George Kastrioti), who lived in the fifteenth century and was a general of the Turkish army. However, Skanderbeger left the Turkish army and returned home to Albania to raise a double-headed eagle flag over his father’s castle in Kruje, saying: “I did not bring you freedom. I found it here, among you.” After his return, Skanderbeg managed to unite Albania and defend it from Turkish raids.

Albania: Tirana

According to Abbreviation Finder, there are many contrasts in the Albanian capital – Tirana. Here you will find magnificent buildings, some from socialist times (compare history and politics ), as well as simple huts. Traditional donkey carriages trot along the streets alongside the latest luxury limousines. Business people sped into high-rise buildings, while poor families drag the market purchases into their mud huts.

In the capital of Albania, one can clearly see that the country is on the one hand on the upswing, on the other hand some are falling behind and parts of the country are sinking into poverty.
