Flag of Eritrea

The flag of Eritrea, an African country located on the coast of the Red Sea, was adopted in 1995. It consists of three triangles of different colors, with the largest red isosceles triangle forming its base pole side of the flag. The other two – green at the top and blue at the bottom – are rectangular and complete the rectangular shape of the flag. In addition, an olive branch surrounded by a wreath of olive leaves is placed in the red field. The red color symbolizes the blood shed during the liberation struggle, the blue represents the ocean and the green represents the country’s agricultural tradition. The olive branch originates from the haunted flag that was used to honor the United Nations.

Eritrea: Asmara

The capital of Eritrea is called Asmara. It is located in the highlands at an altitude of 2,350 meters. About 650,000 people live here. In the capital you can still find beautiful buildings, some of which date from the Italian colonial era. There are cinemas and mosques, Catholic churches and churches of the Eritrean Orthodox Church.

Asmara is very different from other major African cities. The city is clean, there is little air pollution and traffic is orderly. But at the same time there is very great poverty in the city, no matter how beautiful the outer facade looks.
