Flag of Lesotho

The flag of Lesotho was adopted in 2006 and consists of three horizontal stripes in green, white and blue. In addition, a black Basut hat is placed in the middle of the white stripe. The current flag replaced the flag used since the military coup in 1987. This was composed of three fields in green, blue and white separated by diagonal lines. In the white field at the top left of the flag was a brown basuto shield with a feathered spear. On this flag, the color white represented peace, blue water and rain, and green prosperity. The current look of the flag, which was adopted on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the country’s independence, is intended to express the tolerance and peaceful orientation of Lesotho.
