Flag of Mauritius

Mauritius is an island located east of Madagascar and its flag consists of four horizontal stripes. From the top, it’s a red, blue, yellow and green stripe. The colors used have a traditional pan-African meaning. The red color represents the struggle for independence and the blue represents the Indian Ocean that surrounds the island. The yellow stripe symbolizes the bright future of the island after achieving independence, and the green stripe is meant to resemble the lush vegetation of Mauritius. At the same time, these colors are taken from the coat of arms of the island, which was presented to Mauritius by King Edward VII in 1906. The island was under British rule until 1968, in which year the current flag was also adopted.
