Flag of the Federated States of Micronesia

The flag of Micronesia, which was adopted on November 10, 1979, consists of a pale blue sheet on which four white five-pointed stars are placed. Since Micronesia is a federated group of islands located in the Pacific Ocean, the blue background clearly represents the ocean that surrounds the islands. The four main islands and the federated states of Chuuk, Pohnpei, Yap and Kusrae are represented by stars. Originally, the flag of Micronesia carried six stars, but after the departure of the Marshall Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands from the federation, two stars were removed. A number of states in Oceania are proud of a similar flag.
