The Northern Mariana Islands, full name: the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (engl. The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands ) are an American outdoor area in the Pacific Ocean south of Japan and north of Guam.

The Northern Mariana Islands have been part of the Commonwealth with the USA since 1975, with internal independence since 1986.

The area consists of 16 islands stretching for over 500 kilometers, of which Saipan, Tinian and Rota are the largest. In 2009, the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument was designated there.

The main source of income is tourism.

The largest city in the Northern Mariana Islands is Saipan, located on the island of Saipan with a population around 48 thousand people. Saipan is the capital and most populous city in the Northern Mariana Islands, and serves as an important hub for tourism and commerce in the region. This vibrant city is home to a variety of attractions such as American Memorial Park, Managaha Island, and Banzai Cliff.
