Flag of Paraguay

The flag of Paraguay was adopted in 1842 by President Rodriguez de Francia, who was a great admirer of France. Therefore, he chose the colors of the French tricolor for the flag, but he chose a horizontal position for the stripes. The flag is unique in that its reverse and obverse are different. The center of the white stripe on the front of the flag bears the national coat of arms, which shows a yellow five-pointed star surrounded by a green wreath and the words “República del Paraguay”. This star is said to have shone over the capital city of Asunción in 1811 on the day of Paraguay’s declaration of independence. The reverse side is decorated in the same place with the emblem of the Ministry of Finance and the inscription “Paz y Justicia”.

Paraguay is a landlocked country in South America bordering Brazil to the east, Argentina to the south and west, and Bolivia to the north and west. Besides Bolivia, Paraguay is the only state in South America that does not have direct access to the sea. It is bordered by Bolivia to the northwest and north, Brazil to the east, and Argentina to the south and west. With a national territory of almost 407,000 km², the country is roughly the size of Germany and Switzerland put together.

Paraguay is a small South American country located in the heart of the continent. It has a population of over 6.7 million people and is home to some of the largest cities in South America. The three largest cities in Paraguay are Asuncion, Ciudad del Este, and Encarnacion.

Asuncion is the capital city of Paraguay and its largest city with a population of 1.2 million people. Paraguay: Asunción

The capital of Paraguay is Asunción. The name translated means “ascent” or “ascension”. This refers to the Assumption of Mary, a major holiday of the Catholic Church on August 15th. The full name of the city of Asunción is: La Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de Nuestra Señora Santa Maria de la Asunción . This can be translated as: The venerable city of our Holy Mary.

Asunción is located on the banks of the Paraguay River. In 1537, Asunción was founded as a fortress by the Spaniard Juan de Salazar y Espinosa. Today the city is the country’s cultural and economic center. 750,000 people live in Asunción, which makes it the largest city in the country. If you add the residents all around (metropolitan area), you get 2.6 million people. That corresponds to a third of the country’s population.
