Flag of Peru
The flag of Peru is composed of three horizontal stripes, where the side two are red and the middle one is white. In the middle of the white stripe is a shield from the national coat of arms, which was designed by José Georgio Parades before 1825. The shield is divided into three fields, the first of which depicts a vicuña – the national animal of Peru, which belongs to the same family as the camel. Next to the vicuna is a portrait of the quince tree, from which the alkaloid quinine is extracted, which is used in the fight against malaria. In the lower part of the coat of arms, on a double-sized field, there is a horn full of money, which is supposed to point to the mineral wealth of the country.
Biggest Cities of Peru by Population
Peru is a country in South America known for its archaeological sites, stunning landscapes and vibrant cities. The three largest cities in Peru are Lima, Arequipa, and Trujillo.
Lima is the capital city of Peru and the largest city with a population of over 9 million people. It is located on the Pacific coast and known for its historical monuments, colonial architecture, lively nightlife and great cuisine. Visitors can explore Lima’s many attractions such as Plaza de Armas – the main square featuring grand buildings built during Spanish colonial era; or visit El Malecon – a gorgeous waterfront promenade lined with restaurants and cafes; or take a day trip to one of the nearby beaches to relax or take part in various water sports activities.
Arequipa is Peru’s second-largest city with a population of around 1 million people situated in southern part of the country near Colca Canyon – one of the deepest canyons in the world! It is known for its stunning colonial architecture made from white volcanic stone called “sillar”; plus its vibrant nightlife with plenty of bars and clubs offering live music performances every night. Arequipa also offers visitors plenty to do – from exploring nearby archaeological sites such as Sillustani burial towers or discovering local cuisine at traditional restaurants; to visiting some of the nearby hot springs or engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking or biking around Colca Canyon!
Trujillo is Peru’s third-largest city with a population of around 800,000 people situated on northern coast near Moche Valley. This city is known for its beautiful historical center that features grand colonial buildings constructed during Spanish rule; plus several interesting attractions such as Museo de la Libertad which showcases artifacts from Peruvian independence movement; or Chan Chan – an ancient pre-Incan archaeological site that was once inhabited by Chimu civilization! Trujillo also has plenty to offer visitors looking for outdoor activities such as surfing at nearby beaches or exploring Huaca de la Luna temple complex located just outside the city limits.
Overall, Peru has three main cities that offer visitors plenty to see and do – from exploring Lima’s historical monuments to bargaining at markets in Arequipa or discovering ancient civilizations in Trujillo!

Peru: Lima
According to Abbreviation Finder, the capital of Peru is Lima. It is by far the largest city in the country. 8.8 million people live here. In the next largest city, Arequipa, there are “only” 1 million inhabitants. Lima’s old town with many beautiful buildings from the colonial era belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO . Because so many people are moving to Lima and there is no living space, large slums have emerged on the outskirts. They are called here pueblos jóvenes , which means “young villages”.
