Flag of Venezuela

The Venezuelan flag is composed of a horizontal tricolor in yellow, blue and red. The colors are taken from the flag of the former federation of Gran Colombia, of which Venezuela was a member along with Colombia and Ecuador from 1819 – 1830. However, unlike the other former members, the flag of Venezuela has all the stripes of the same width. In addition, in the middle of the blue stripe, there is an arch formed by eight five-pointed stars, and the upper part of the mast side of the flag bears the coat of arms in the case of a national flag. The stars represent the seven Venezuelan provinces that have signed an agreement to withdraw from the Gran Colombia federation. The eighth star did not appear on the flag until 2006 and is intended to represent the territory of Essequiba, which is largely located in the territory of Guyana and is claimed by Venezuela.

Venezuela is a state in South America and is located on the Caribbean coast. For a long time, the aim of Venezuelan foreign policy was to achieve a unified and socialist Latin America within the framework of the Alternativa Bolivariana para las Américas (Spanish: Bolivarian Alternative for All America – ALBA). Venezuela saw itself in a leading role in Latin America.

Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world. But the drop in oil prices coupled with corruption and mismanagement have ruined the country. Venezuela is currently in a severe political and economic crisis with hyperinflation and massive civil unrest.
